Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆

Josie is a food and restaurant columnist at a local newspaper with a problem. She has stomach issues causing her to lose weight on her already small frame. After Josie is a bridesmaid in a wedding where the bride dies on her honeymoon, Josie is asked to see if she can determine who the killer is by the mother and mother in law of the bride. Although Josie doesn’t like people much, for some reason, people open up to her. Josie’s doctor friend, who she happens to love, is sending her to a spa where they specialize in people with special diet needs. This is also very convenient, as it’s also the place where the bride died. So Josie begins her investigation, during which, she is almost arrested for trespassing and almost caught snooping around the room of and by the lead suspect, the groom Peter. It also seems as though Peter isn’t as distraught at the death of his wife Leann as he should be, as she finds him making out with one of the spa’s massage therapists. She also discovers the bride had had numerous abortions over a six year time span and was possibly suffering from abuse at the hands of Peter and his brother Michael. As Josie gets closer to figuring out who killed Leann, the person(s) responsible decide that she knows too much and kidnap her from her room. Will those responsible for Leann’s death and Josie’s abduction be brought to justice? Read The Bride Wore Dead by EM Kaplan and find out! At first glance, Josie seems like a bit of a hot mess. She’s struggling to make ends meet, a bit messy, and not afraid to say what’s on her mind except when it comes to her feelings for a certain special someone in her life. As the story goes on, you find out that Josie is really a complex character. Her mother is in a nursing home suffering from Alzheimer’s and can’t remember Josie, while her father died years ago right in front of Josie. She’s also in love with her old school buddy/friend/physician Drew, only she’s never told him. What’s endearing about Josie is that she genuinely cares about Leann, the victim, even though she’s only known her the brief period she served as one of her bridesmaids. For reasons unbeknownst to her, people open up to her, a quality that may not necessarily be in her best interest when she’s investigating Leann’s death. The Bride Wore Dead is full of suspense and will entertain any reader that picks it up.
