Review of "Being Sawyer Knight" By: Nicola Haken

"Being Sawyer Knight" By: Nicola Haken
Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆

A story about finding true love when you least expect it and in unexpected places.  A story about self discovery and finding the courage to stand up and say 'this is who I am and I'm proud of it.'  A story of following your heart and finding the one person that completes you.

Sawyer Knight is a rock star in the internationally famous group, Souls of the Knight.  Famous for his behaviour off the stage with women as he is on stage but there is something missing from his life: it is incomplete.

Jake and Sawyer were best friends until  Jake moved to Australia with his family.  Jake always wanted more with Sawyer but the feeling was not returned and Sawyer was horrified by the idea.  Jake has now returned into Sawyer's life as his bodyguard, still wanting more with him but this time he has no intention of giving up.  He wants Sawyer and he will get him.

It becomes apparent quite quickly that Sawyer feels the same but is afraid to admit it.  There is a vulnerability about Sawyer as he wrestles with himself and his feelings for Jake.  It is such a contrast to his on-stage persona, which is so confident, cocky and so sure of himself that you fall for the man underneath: the man that Jake sees.  There is such a fear of rejection by his fans, family and friends that it makes ashamed of who he is and he fights the feelings he has for Jake. It is only through the love Jake shows him unconditionally and the confidence he has in Sawyer that we see him start to come to life, live and accept who he is.

The emotions that run throughout this book are raw and pure.  The characters are larger than life and provide a contrast to Jake and Sawyer.  The dialogue is natural, witty and full of banter.   His relationship with Jake is not the only concern that Sawyer has, as the band and he have been receiving death threats.  Both story lines are delivered in an understated way.

This story so worked and that is down to Jake and Sawyer's characters.  Jake and Sawyer's journey together with all of the ups, downs, twists and turns had me invested in their future and their HEA.
