A work of art…

Evelyn “EJ” Cunning comes from a wealthy family with very clear expectations. Close to her father, she struggles to find common ground with her mother and sister. Determined to try and forge her own way, she is attending a mid-west college with a great art program. Mollifying her parents with a promise to seek her MBA after her undergraduate work is done; EJ was growing as an artist and determined more than ever to find her own path. Along the way she unexpectedly meets Foster Blake, a nerdy fellow co-worker at the engineering library. Along with a big brain, Fozzie also is appealing in other ways as friendship turns to a one night stand that becomes… more. While they seemed to have very little in common, their attraction was undeniable. Would family expectations and truths left unsaid be strong enough to tear them apart?

This novel started so quietly I wasn’t sure what to expect. As I read on though the humour caught my attention and then the interactions between EJ and Fozzie had me glued to the pages right to the end. EJ is funny, articulate, and warm. Indulging in a bout of self-pity now and again, this ensures she doesn’t come across as too perfect. Fozzie is the smart, nerdy hunk that never seems to get the girl, though in this one he just may pull it off. The sparks between the two are incredibly fun and endearing at the same time.

“I’m in it for the clothes and Hans Solo’s ass.”

The conflict in this story is all about the relationships that are formed and tested. Love between parent and child, lovers and friends are all stretched and reformed in a novel that left me with warm fuzzies by the end. Loved it!
